Our Curriculum

At The Gulf English School we are aim to ensure that our whole school curriculum is in line with the vision and mission of the school and provides all our learners every opportunity to achieve their best in an engaging, challenging and stimulating way.

We aim to ensure that all our learners master the full range of academic skills as well as developing their appreciation of the wider world through service learning and becoming responsible global citizens who are able to meet the challenges of the 21st Century. Our curriculum sections provide more detailed information about each key stage and the specific qualifications.

In the Infant school, children start their learning journey in the Early Years department. In Pre-school and Reception years we follow the Early Years Foundation stage curriculum (EYFS) which precedes the National Curriculum of England. This year, we are introducing the International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC) to run alongside the EYFS. Arabic is also taught in short sessions.

In Key Stage 1 (Years 1 & 2), children follow the National Curriculum for England (2014) integrated with the International Primary Curriculum (IPC). Arabic and Islamic Studies lessons continue, with the length and frequency of the lessons increasing.

Their learning journey continues as the children move into Key Stage 2 (Years 3 to 6). Here our children learn to become more independent; applying their skills and knowledge in an increasing range of contexts. The National Curriculum for England (2014) standards drive our planning, teaching and assessment as well as the continued integration of the IPC Curriculum into class teaching. Specialist subjects are taught by trained specialists for Music, Art, PE, and Computing

In Key Stage 3 (Years 7 to 9) the curriculum follows the standards and learning expectations as set out in the 2014 National Curriculum for England and Wales including Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE). Arabic, Islamic Studies and Qatar History continue to be delivered in class by specialist Arabic teachers.

In Key Stage 4 (Years 10 & 11) students opt to continue studying subjects at I/GCSE level or BTEC level 2. The I/GCSE courses have formal, external examinations at the end of Year 11. All students who study I/GCSEs in Years 10 and 11 will study English, Arabic and Mathematics. The BTEC course consists of modules which are assessed through coursework and assignments. Those students who study BTEC will also take I/GCSE examinations in English, Math’s and a Language subject.

In our Sixth Form there are two options for our students:

  • AS Level – This is a one year course where students chose to study a minimum of 3 AS subjects. These are formally examined at the end of the year. Most students opting for this course will be planning to do foundation courses at university.
  • BTEC & AS - We also offer BTEC level 3 combined with some AS-level subjects. This is also appropriate for those students who plan to complete foundation courses at university.
