GES is running a school-wide competition about seatbelt safety. Students are encouraged to take a picture of themselves in their cars wearing their seatbelt and bring it into school. The class or form with the most photos of students wearing their seatbelts will receive a special prize.

Members of the Secondary School Student Council are running this competition to raise awareness about the importance of wearing your seatbelt when in a car. They have been working hard to share information about the competition in assemblies across the whole school and have spoken with eloquence and confidence when addressing both their peers and younger members of the school community.

The facts about wearing a seatbelt.

In a crash, you're twice as likely to die if you don't wear a seatbelt.

Drivers and passengers aged 17-34 have the lowest seatbelt-wearing rates combined with the highest accident rate.

There is evidence that people are less likely to use seatbelts on short or familiar journeys - this puts them at serious risk of injury in a crash.

Did you know that these things are illegal in Qatar?

Not wearing your seat belt.

Allowing children below 10 years of age to sit in the front passenger seat.
These things are punishable by imprisonment from one month to three years or subject to fines of between 10,000 QR to 50,000 QR or both.

We ask that all members of the GES community share this important message about car safety and make sure that they ‘buckle up’ when in a car.

Don’t forget to bring in your pictures!
