The day that we had all been waiting for and working towards had finally arrived.
At 7am on Saturday 21st March, 26 excited students and 6 team managers all met at the QNCC for the start of the 2015 Destination Imagination Competition.
This year saw 5 teams from G.E.S. taking part - 4 in the elementary section and 1 in the middle section. They all completed a team challenge that they had been working on over the last several months, in the areas of technical, scientific or fine arts. They also completed an instant challenge, delivered to them on the day.
Two teams competed in the technical challenge - Brainstars were the first team to take part in their team challenge. They had designed and built a dragon called Roary, designed a world and written a story that was acted out. The dragon made a big impression, as did the acting.
They were followed by Bright Stars who had built a creature that moved and talked. They also had a world that turned and had written a story that was acted out. In their solution they included a dance and ended with a team cheer.
In the scientific challenge the Creative Masters team made a sound machine and had to show sound waves when there was a change of pace in their story. They choose to show their sound waves by using glow sticks, lollipops sticks and pipe cleaners.
Our secondary team, Turbobrains, also took part in the scientific challenge. They made musical instruments and told a story about a wicked witch that was killed by changes in sounds.
The final G.E.S. team took part in the fine arts challenge. They told a story about a character that overcame a phobia and made a piece of functional art to help with their story.
We are really proud of all the students that took part and would like to thank the parents that came along to support them.
Finally well done to Creative Masters who came second in their competition and to TURBOBRAINS who are going to Global finals!
